The Difference Between Updraft and Downdraft PopCleans

When it comes to choosing the right popcorn machine for your operation, the PopClean series offers two powerful options tailored to meet different needs: the Updraft and Downdraft models. Both versions are designed to deliver high-quality popcorn while maintaining a clean and efficient workspace, but they differ in key aspects that can impact your setup. Understanding these differences will help you select the ideal machine for your specific environment, whether you're dealing with height restrictions or seeking maximum storage and production capacity.

PopClean Updraft Popper

Updraft PopClean Popcorn Machine

The Updraft PopClean is the most popular version in our lineup, known for its versatility and efficiency. It requires 18 inches of vertical space above the machine, making it suitable for locations where height isn't a constraint. This version excels in offering flexibility with multiple size options ranging from 36 to 72 inches, making it a great fit for a variety of setups. Additionally, the Updraft model boasts the ability to accommodate two kettles, significantly increasing its popcorn production capacity. With a grease-laden vapor emission level of 3.6 mg/cubic meter, it ensures a clean operation well within the industry standards.

PopClean Downdraft Machine

Downdraft PopClean Popcorn Machine

The Downdraft PopClean is the typically recommended for installations where height constraints are a concern. Unlike the Updraft, it requires no additional vertical space above the machine, making it a go-to option for spaces with limited overhead clearance. However, the trade-off comes in the form of reduced operator space and slightly less storage capacity due to the filter system extending into the popcorn cabinet area. Despite this, the Downdraft model offers superior grease-laden vapor emission control, with levels less than 1.0 mg/cubic meter, making it one of the cleanest options available. The cabinet is sized 60 to 72 inches and houses everything you need to produce delicious popcorn.

Our fire suppression system is an Ansul R-102 wet system. The system charge and arming must be performed by an Ansul certified fire suppression agency. Our customers can go to Ansul.com to locate a qualified local agent. The Fire Suppression System is fully assembled and a tank is provided for the liquid fire suppressant agent. The fire suppression company will fill the tank with 3 gallons of Ansulex liquid agent. In addition, they will install the CO2 cartridge to propel the liquid agent. The standard cartridge is a 101-20 for most of our poppers. If it is a twin popper with a deep well, they will require a 101-30 cartridge. All links and other hardware are provided. The technician will then arm the system. Typically, every 6 months they will come back to inspect the system. The cost for charging and arming the system is the responsibility of the end customer.
